When our students travel with us, the excursion has always been one of the most memorable moments of the trip: a castle, a museum, a square full of history. But we kept asking ourselves one question: how do we turn a simple walk into an experience worth remembering, while giving students a real reason to put their English into practice?
That question is where MLA GO began.
This year, every student who travelled with MLA had access to MLA GO, our new official app, developed by the MLA Information Technology Department to transform the way students experience a study holiday.

An Idea Born from a Simple Observation
The idea behind MLA GO came from a simple observation. During excursions, students visit extraordinary places, but once the day is over, they often remember only a small part of what they have seen. Motivation and cultural engagement can easily fade at the very moment when learning should be at its highest.
With MLA GO, we decided to embrace the technology our students know best: their smartphone. Not as a distraction, but as a powerful learning tool.
Every Stop Comes to Life
For students, every excursion opens with a map. Each point of interest is numbered, and that numbering matches the audio guides, so there is never any doubt about where you are or what you are looking at.
Throughout every excursion, the app guides students using GPS geolocation and interactive maps, allowing them to discover points of interest as they move through each destination. The audio guides — in English, available both online and offline — can include video and music to bring every stop to life. Alongside them are engaging quizzes, thought-provoking questions and interactive challenges that encourage students to observe, think and learn while they explore.
Every correct answer, every completed challenge and every activity contributes to reinforcing what they have learned, making each visit far more memorable, engaging and educational.
Because We Learn Best by Playing
And because we learn best by playing, we added gamification: quizzes to complete along the way, badges to collect and rewards to unlock, right through to the final digital certificate.
The experience begins even before setting off. A pre-excursion notification introduces the route and the points of interest students are about to visit. That notification is what kicks off the excursion, with all the planned materials and activities ready to use.
Much More Than an App
But MLA GO goes even further.
The app integrates classroom performance, lesson attendance and each student’s achievements during excursions, creating a personal performance score that measures not only linguistic progress but also cultural engagement and participation. Through an intuitive dashboard, students can monitor the development of their communication skills, lesson achievement, attendance, excursion engagement and their overall progress.
Another major advantage is its seamless synchronisation with the timetable of every MLA centre. Lessons, activities and excursions are always updated and instantly available on each student’s smartphone. The app is available across all 18 MLA centres in England, Scotland, Ireland, the United States and Canada, providing every participant with the same innovative digital experience.
