How an internship abroad or in Italy works

Not everyone knows this, but school is not just about educational trips. There are many alternatives that allow students to have an experience abroad or in Italy that is just as educational and rewarding. And if, in addition to the excitement of traveling, there is also the opportunity to learn or improve a foreign language, why not take advantage of it?

An internship either abroad or in Italy is an exciting opportunity – a chance for all students to grow both linguistically and personally. MLA closely follows the education sector and its ongoing evolution. For this reason, it offers “tailor-made” programs with many destinations, designed to meet the needs of both teachers and students.

What Are the Programs?

Language Programme

Going abroad or staying in Italy, attending language classes, and visiting the chosen city—what could be better? The schools are selected with the utmost care and are renowned for their prestige and reliability. In Great Britain, for example, most schools are recognized by the British Council and are members of English UK. In Ireland, they are members of MEI RELSA.

The language course generally includes 16–20 weekly lessons of 45 minutes, depending on the length of the stay. The topics covered can be agreed upon with Italian teachers so that the experience becomes an integral part of their educational project. At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance is issued, which can also be used for educational credit purposes.

School–Work Alternation (Work-Based Learning Programme)

We all know that the “Buona Scuola” reform introduced mandatory school–work alternation starting from the third year of upper secondary school, to be included in the School Educational Plan (at least 200 hours for high schools and at least 400 hours for technical institutes, in Italy and abroad).

You can choose between two options: a simulated work placement or a company internship.

  • Simulated internship: This includes up to 40 hours per week divided between classroom lessons and company visits. In class, students learn to use business English, with particular attention to sector-specific terminology, how to write a CV or a cover letter in a foreign language, and how to handle a job interview. Outside the classroom, activities are complemented by orientation seminars, company visits, and/or training meetings.
  • Company internship: This option offers a full immersion in the working world. We work with major Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad and hundreds of successful companies, ranging from small businesses to multinational corporations. Students are placed in various sectors where they can gain hands-on experience and gain hands-on experience and take part in their first real work experience. This program generally includes 40 working hours per week in the host company.

Integration Programme

This program is ideal for independent and dynamic students who want to experience living and studying in a foreign country by attending a local state school, even for just one week.

It is a true full immersion experience designed to significantly improve English skills by participating in a school system that is completely different from the Italian one, based on the CLIL methodology.
